Аннотация: В статье поднимается вопрос о том, насколько представителен корпус англо-саксонских королевских жалованных грамот. В силу исторических причин он рассматривается только для периода от правления Альфреда Великого до правления Эдуарда Исповедника (871–1066 гг.). Разбираются количественный, географический и хронологический аспекты репрезентативности имеющейся выборки. Отмечается выраженная корреляция между этнополитическим разделением Англии и числом архивов, а также количеством грамот для того или иного региона и количеством архивов в нём. Далее разбирается проблема объективности распределения наличных королевских актов по архивам и во времени. Имеющиеся данные не позволяют окончательно исключать возможность документальных потерь в масштабе, повлёкшем искажения в выборке. Однако сумма косвенных аргументов склоняет чашу весов в пользу хотя бы относительной хронологической и географической репрезентативности доставшегося историкам корпуса, даже если реальная дистрибуция могла быть более сглаженной.
