Abstract: The article describes the main stages in the activity of Árni Magnússon (the Icelandic-Danish scientist of the turn of the 17–18th centuries) on the collection and preservation of the Icelandic manuscript heritage, the main body of this collection is stored in the Arnamagnæan Manuscript Collection (Reykjavík). We have analyzed the characteristic features of one of the manuscripts of this collection – AM 107 fol, written by the famous Icelandic scribe Jón Erlendsson and containing the older edition of the Landnámabók – Sturlubók. AM 107 fol is a typical example of Jón’s mid-life handwriting, with all the personal features of his fraktur variant. Jón was distinguished by attention to the spelling of the original and a small number of blots. However, in AM 107 fol one can trace the dynamics of his handwriting, the increase in “hand fatigue”, expressed in an increase in the density of filling lines, a greater intensity of use of ligatures and a greater number of blots. All this testifies the creation of AM 107 fol in one short period of time and allows us to expand our knowledge about the productivity of Icelandic scribers of the 17th century.
