Dear Colleagues,
We would like to invite you to take part in a round table which will be held at the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences on October 30, 2023:
Annual Recording Events as a Written Practice
The topic of the round table are various forms of yearly records, from ‘classical’ annals or chronicles to such texts as:
- lists of years notifying the most remarkable events,
- inscriptions with year-dates,
- administrative records with annual structure,
- ego-documents with annual structure,
- etc.
We do not limit ourselves to any particular region, period, religion, system of writing, or system of time-reckoning – on the contrary, it would be interesting to discuss and compare similar written practices which have arisen independently. Papers may focus on the form of these texts, the process of their compilation, as well as their functions and the interrelation of these written practices.

Proceedings of the round table are supposed to be published in the electronic open-access journal “GRAPHOSPHAERA: Письмо и письменные практики / Writing and Written Practices” in 2024.
